Ferro Boron (FeB) is a metal alloy that produces boron steels. It contains iron and 17.5% to 20% boron. Manufacturers can create this alloy through multiple processes. The first of those methods is using carbon steel in an electric arc furnace. This manufacturing method creates a carbo-thermic reduction of boric acid. The second strategy uses a boric acid alumina-thermic reduction in the presence of iron.
Manufacturers can improve hardenability by adding Ferro Boron to other low-alloy steels like carbon-manganese (C-Mn). It can also act as a nitrogen scavenger in steel production and boost magnetic susceptibility in neodymium (NdFeB) magnets. Ferro Boron vastly increases the deep quench ability of the steels. It also increases the wash resistance of the steels significantly.
